The food or beverage is produced


From the process the final product and a residue is recieved. The residue is often in the form af a slurry or spent grains.


The slurry/spent grains is dewatered and dried in the Freeze Dry Unit to a dry solid content of 95 %.


The slurry or spent grain is transported for disosal. This requres a lot of transports as the material is still quite wet.


The slurry or spent grain is transorted for further use. The reject water cn me collected or used in different parts of the process.


The dried material can be be now be used in different applications as the dryness ensures a long durability as well as the option of incineration to extract energy.

This is how Freeze Dry Unit makes a difference for food production and breweries

From the manufacturing process of beer, wine, other alcohol products oat-milk and soy-milk a residue or a by product is received in the form of a slurry with great value. The Freeze Dry Unit can play a very important role in this process. A challenge in this process is that the residue, slurry, spent grain or mach is very short lived before it starts to decay or go bad for further food usage. The Freeze Dry Unit can here be used to stop the decay process by drying the residue to a dry matter of above 95 %. This results in a product that is easily storable and can be reused to create a new valuable product or to simply transport something with less volume and weight.


Analysis after the process indicate that nutrients, energy, proteins and enzymes in the freeze-dried material is not compromised. To be sure a test would need to be carried out in Elajo´s lab and a certified analysis company.


All products are unique, but studies indicate that the Freeze Dry Unit utilizes a gentler process to the material that protects unique-to-product characteristics including antioxidants, essential amino acids, minerals and vitamins. This eliminates oxidation and prevents damage to critical functionalities of the original nutrients. In other available methods it can be challenging or impossible to dry without additives and alter with the nutrients in the dried material.

Spent grains

Freeze Dru Unit can be used to dewater and dry spent grains from the Beer Brewing Process. Ry spent grains from the Freeze Dry Unit can for example be used as a pure natural addition to animal fodder with high crude protein content. With Freeze Dry Unit a pelletized product can be reached with minimum energy need.


The traditional process for drying Brewery Spent Grains (BSG) is based on the use of direct rotary-drum dryers. A very energy intensive process. With the Freeze Dry Unit, the energy usage can be reduced dramatically, and the quality of the final product can be highly increased.



Okara/soy pulp

Okara is a residue from the production of soy-milk and tofu. Okara has a high value of nutrients and can be used in different foods for example vegan burgers, used as livestock feed or pet food but it can also be used as a fertilzer as the nitrogen content is high. There is a challenge to put the okara to commercial use as the high moisture content combined eith the high nutrient content makes it prone to putrefaction.


With the Freeze Dry Unit the putrifaction process is prevented due to the high dry solid content after the drying process. The okara can then be safely stored and effectivley transported.
